Lawn-to-Meadow Conversions

We’ll replace your lawn with a beautiful, low-maintenance and ecologically rich wildflower meadow.

We’re passionate about creating landscapes that invite nature back into our spaces.

Why should you make the change?

Our Process

  • Design & Planning

Our first priority is understanding your needs and developing a vision for the space. Every space is different and we’ll happily accommodate any requests. Once we’ve established the concept, we put together a detailed proposal including layout, plant species and a summary of work.

  • Site Preparation & Installation

Once we’ve finalized your design, we’ll get to work. The first step is to remove all turfgrass and unwanted vegetation. After the site cleared and prepped, we install a high-density of young native wildflowers and strategically sow additional wildflowers seeds.

  • Nurture & Enjoy

Our goal is to create ecologically rich spaces that require less time, energy and resources to maintain. However, some post-installation care is required to ensure that goal is achieved. We provide resources to guide our clients on ongoing care but we recommend 1-2 years of post-installation maintenance.

A Meadow For Every Space

  • Meadow Strips

If you have a smaller space or want to keep some of your lawn, that’s not a problem. We can add meadows along boulevards, fence edges or anywhere else you have available. Small spaces can go a long way.

  • Full Yard Conversions

If you’re ready to jump right in, we are right there with you. Whether you want to go fully wild or use lower growing species, we can replace your lawn with beatiful native wildflowers that will have local pollinators buzzing.

FAQs

What is the best time of year to plant a wildflower meadow?

Your meadow will have the best chance for success when started in the spring or fall. Planting can stretch into early summer when the weather is mild or if your space has irrigation.

What species do we use in our wildflower meadows?

We focus on planting BC native wildflowers and grasses. However, we are flexible and can easily incorporate non-native (non-invasive) species into your meadow by request.

How much does it cost to convert my lawn to a meadow?

We charge ~$5/sqft with a minimum charge of $1,000. Depending on the condition of the yard, the quality of the soil and the current vegetation, that number can vary.

How long will it take for the flowers to bloom?

If started in the spring, you will start to see flowers blooming in 4-6 weeks. If started in the fall, the flowers will be dormant over the winter and bloom times will vary depending on the species.

How much maintenance does a meadow require?

Some maintenance may be required as your meadow gets established. However, once established, it will require little supplemental watering and a minimum maintenance.

Is my yard right for a wildflower meadow?

The most important requirement of a wildflower meadow is regular sunlight. While your meadow can be successful in partial sun, full sunlight (6+ hours/day) will produce the best results.

We recently hired Wild Spaces Land Care to design and install three separate areas on our property, including lawn-to-meadow conversions. We are so thrilled with the result.

We recently had our lawn converted to a meadow by Wild Spaces Land Care. This is a bit of a new concept for us, but we just found our lawn kind of boring. Keegan did not disappoint. We had a great time going over our vision of our meadow, the colors, flowers, and special requests on species that can be dried for me to make arrangements. He is knowledgeable and meticulous in getting our meadow ready. I have learned a great deal from him on plants and how to up keep our garden. It was a fun project and we are now enjoying a very nice meadow on our yard. Not only we love it, a lot of bumble bees and butterflies love it too!

“I am so glad I reached out to Keegan! He has turned my overgrown buttercup filled yard into an amazing meadow! The comments I get as I am out admiring Keegan’s handiwork are incredible. I see my boulevard gardens being “oohed and aahed” over all the time!”

If you’re ready to say goodbye to your lawn (or just some of it), we’re ready to help make it happen.
